An introductory training in Counselling and Psychotherapy

(This course satisfies the homework requirement for students undertaking the Practitioner Program and for general interest).
Mark Rietema and Katy Dymoke have delivered this training before in 2022 and offer it again. This is an opportunity to get insight into key principles and techniques of establishing a therapeutic alliance with a client. As an introduction to Process based and Person Centred approaches.
LOCATION; on zoom
We expect the Zoom sessions to be a mix of theory, group discussion and break out rooms with practical exercises. Please read and confirm your attendance.
We can offer the following times and dates. 5 weekly sessions on Monday’s at 6-9pm UK time, starting on the 27th of January. One week off on the 3rd of March, a further 3 weekly sessions starting from the 10th of March, Monday the 31st of March off, then two more Monday’s, 7th and 14th of April.
There will be a general requirement to do an hour of reading per week and two peer group practice reports for homework amounting to about 20 hours over the period. We will provide a certificate of completion amounting to 50 hours of study.
Pricing: £250 (concession), £350 (waged)
Here is an example of how the weeks are likely to be structured content wise. This might change depending on the needs of the group. We will provide a reading list for reference and self study in-between sessions.

Realm of the Unconscious (3 evenings)
- Key Terms and Understanding from Depth Psychology
- Historical context and framing through different modalities
- Transference, Countertransference, Projections
- Importance of Process and Emergence
Ethics & Professional Issues (3 evenings)
- Power, Hierarchy and Rank
- Neurobiological informed work
- Reflexivity & Phenomenological reduction
- Limits: what they are and what to do when you reach them
The final session will be to wrap up and to meet emerging challenges. We will ask for documentation of your online/in person peer work meetings as this is meant to ground your learning from the evening input.
